Employment and average monthly wage in selected sectors of economy in February 2021

In February, employment fell in most sectors, wage developments were more favourable, only three sectors were below the level of 2020.

Employment

At the beginning of 2021, employment increased slightly only in information and communication, it declined the most in accommodation, where a decrease exceeded 20 %, it declined by more than 10 % also in construction and food and beverage service activities. In February 2021, compared to February 2020, employment increased in information and communication, even only very slightly by 0,1 %. It decreased the most in accommodation by 20,4 %, but a drop by more than 10 % was also recorded in food and beverage service activities (by 16,8 %) and in construction (by 10,1 %). It also declined in wholesale by 8 %, in industry by 5,7 %, in retail trade by 4,8 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 4,2 %, transportation and storage by 3,7 % and in selected market services by 1,5 %.

On average, over first two months of 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, employment increased only in information and communication by 0,2 %. It decreased in accommodation by 22,7 %, food and beverage service activities by 14,4 %, construction by 9,9 %, wholesale by 7,8 %, industry by 6,1 %, retail trade by 4,9 %, transportation and storage by 4,1 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 3,9 % and in selected market services by 0,9 %.

Average monthly wage

In February 2021, the average nominal monthly wage increased the most in construction year-on-year. It decreased in three sectors, the largest, up to double-digit decrease was recorded in accommodation. In February 2021, compared to February 2020, the average nominal monthly wage rose in construction by 4,5 % (amounted to EUR 747), wholesale by 3,7 % (EUR 1 076), information and communication by 2,5 % (EUR 1 945), selected market services by 2,5 % (EUR 1 058), retail trade by 1,5 % (EUR 801), industry by 1,2 % (EUR 1 136) and transportation and storage by 0,2 % (EUR 1 009).  It decreased in accommodation by 19,7 % (EUR 648), food and beverage service activities by 5,4 % (EUR 528) and in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 4,5 % (EUR 1 013).

In February 2021, the average real monthly wage increased year-on-year in construction by 3,6 %, wholesale by 2,8 %, information and communication and in selected market services equally by 1,6 %, retail trade by 0,6 % and industry by 0,3 %. It declined the most in accommodation by 20,4 %,  a decrease was also recorded in food and beverage service activities by 6,2 %, in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 5,4 % and in transportation and storage by 0,7 %.

On average, over the first two months of 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, wages increased in selected market services by 5,9 % (amounted to EUR 1 090), construction by 4,1 % (EUR 758), information and communication by 1,2 % (EUR 1 969), industry by 1,1 % (EUR 1 157), wholesale by 0,9 % (EUR 1 064) and in retail trade by 0,6 % (EUR 802). Compared to the same period last year, it decreased in accommodation by 19,1 % (EUR 649), food and beverage service activities by 6,6 % (EUR 524), sale and repairs of motor vehicles by 3 % (EUR 1 039) and in transportation and storage by 1,6 % (EUR 1 015).

The real monthly wage increased year-on-year in selected market services by 5,1 %, in construction by 3,3 %, information and communication by 0,4 %, industry by 0,3 % and wholesale by 0,1 %. It decreased in accommodation by 19,7 %, food and beverage service activities by 7,3 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 3,8 %, transportation and storage by 2,4 % and in retail trade by 0,2 %.
