Foreign trade detailed data in June and for the first six months of 2019

In June, compared with the corresponding period last year, the total export of goods decreased by 7,3 % to EUR 6 489,2 million and the total import rose by 5,2 % to EUR 6 204,5 million. The foreign trade balance was in surplus in the amount of EUR 284,7 million (by EUR 165,8 million lower than in June 2018).

 In January-June 2019, the foreign trade balance was in surplus in the amount of EUR 1 335,9 million (by EUR 495,7 million lower than in the corresponding period last year).

The Slovak Republic recorded the highest active balance with Germany (EUR 2 783,3 million),  France (EUR 1 467,4 million), the United Kingdom (EUR 1 408,5 million), USA (EUR 1 157,4 million),  Austria (EUR 968,4 million), Poland (EUR 775,1 million), Italy (EUR 679 million), Spain (EUR 567,2 million), the Czech Republic (EUR 392 million) and Romania (EUR 366,6 million).

The largest passive balance was recorded with the Republic of Korea (EUR 2 015,7 million),Vietnam (EUR 1 915,4 million), China (EUR 1 409,3 million), the Russian Federation (EUR 1 133,3 million), Malaysia (EUR 212,9 million), Japan (EUR 203,7 million), Taiwan (EUR 194,9 million) and Ukraine (EUR 147 million).

Goods in the amount of EUR 40 743,2 million were exported from the Slovak Republic. Compared with corresponding period of 2018, the total export grew by 3,4 %.

In terms of goods, an increase was recorded in export of motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for transport of persons by EUR 2 303,6 million, electrical transformers, static converters and inductors by EUR 85,6 million and air or vacuum pumps, air or other gas compressors and fans by EUR 83,2 million.

The highest decrease was recorded in export of telephone sets including telephones for cellular networks by EUR 463,9 million, petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, other than crude by EUR 161 million and monitors and projectors, television apparatus by EUR 144 million.

Relating the most significant trade partners, export increased to Germany by 4,1 %, Poland by 3,5 %, France by 8,3 %, Hungary by 5,3 %, United Kingdom by 8,3 %, USA by 50,1 %, Romania by 7,1 %, China by 42,6 % and Russian Federation by 4,4 %. Export to the Czech Republic decreased by 1,3 %, Austria by 2 %, Italy by 24 %, Spain by 0,8 % and the Netherlands by 7,5 %.

In terms of the main economic groupings, the export to the EU countries rose by 1,1 % (it represented 84 % of the total export of the SR) and to the OECD countries by 2,4 % (it represented 88,3 % of the total export of the SR).  

Goods in the amount of EUR 39 407,2 million were imported to the Slovak Republic with a year-on-year growth of 4,9 %.

In terms of goods, an increase was registered in import of parts and accessories of the motor vehicles by EUR 1 135,7 million, wires and cables by EUR 280,6 million, compression-ignition internal combustion piston engines by EUR 150,2 million and  seats, whether or not convertible into beds and parts thereof by EUR 148,6 million.

The significant drop was recorded in import of telephone sets including telephones for cellular networks by EUR 312,4 million and products of liquid crystals by EUR 127,1 million.

In relation to the most significant trade partners, the import increased from the Czech Republic by 4,6 %, China by 4 %, Poland by 6 %, Hungary by 16,7 %, the Russian Federation by 4,1 %. France by 7 %, Austria by 5,6 % and United Kingdom by 9,8 %. Import from Germany decreased by 4,3 %, the Republic of Korea by 0,4 %, Vietnam by 15,6 % and Italy by 1,6 %.

In terms of the main economic groupings, the import from the EU countries grew by 6,2 % (it represented 68,5 % of the total import) and from the OECD countries by 2,4 % (it represented 66,5 % of the total import of the SR), compared with the corresponding period of 2018.

Information was processed by the Statistical Office of the SR on the basis of data from the Customs Section of the Financial Directorate of the SR obtained within the customs clearance and INTRASTAT-SK declarations, which are provided by consignee and consignor of goods.
