The growth of new orders in industry slowed down in May
In May 2023, the value of new orders in industry increased by 2.5% year-on-year and reached a volume1) of EUR 6.0 billion. After seasonal adjustment, new orders in industry decreased by 0.9% in May 2023 compared to April 2023.2)
New orders rose for the fourth consecutive month, but the dynamics of year-on-year growth decreased again in May compared to the previous month. In April, year-on-year growth was at the level of 4.3% and in March up to 12.8%. The volume increased in only three out of the 12 monitored sectors of industry.
Orders increased year-on-year the most in manufacture of motor vehicles, semi-trailers and trailers, which represented almost 58% of the total volume of orders in the industry. Orders also increased year-on-year in manufacture of basic metals, except machinery and equipment and in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products. The year-on-year decrease was recorded by orders mainly in manufacture of paper and paper products, manufacture of chemicals and chemical products, and in manufacture of electrical equipment.
