In August 2019, the development of tourism in accommodation establishments in the SR, confirmed the growth of Slovak tourism during the second half of the holiday season.
In August 2019, the number of visitors to accommodation establishments reached 792 136 persons, which was an increase by 17,7 % compared with the last year. The total number of overnight stays was 2 477 483 with a year-on-year increase by 15,9 %. This is the highest number of monthly visits published since 2006.
Domestic visitors made up 59 % of the total number of visitors, representing 466,6 thous. persons and their number increased by 23,7 %. The number of foreign visitors was 325,5 thous., which was by 10,1 % more than in August 2018.
The visitors spent, on average, 3,1 days in the accommodation establishments, of which domestic visitors 3,4 days and foreign visitors 2,7 days.
The number of visitors increased in all regions, a year-on-year growth by more than 15 % was reached in six regions. A lower number of visitors was recorded in Bratislavský kraj (by 10,1 %) and in Nitriansky kraj (by 12,9 %).
Domestic visitors mainly searched for attractive tourist sites, almost 114 thousand. visitors stayed in the Žilinský kraj (growth by 30 % compared to August 2018) and spent almost 342 thousand nights (by 31,3 % more, year-on-year). It was followed by the Prešovský kraj, where almost 88 thousand visitors stayed in August (by 25,5 % more, year-on-year) and the Banskobystrický kraj with almost 73 thous. domestic visitors and a year-on-year growth by 29 %.
In the eight months of 2019, 4 362 817 visitors stayed here, which represented an increase of 12,9 % compared to the same period last year. From this number, there were 2 651 725 domestic visitors, who spent 8 028 578 nights. Year-on-year, the number of domestic visitors increased by 15,9 % and foreign visitors by 8,6 %.
As of end of August 2019, accommodation services were provided by 4 417 accommodation establishments. Their number increased year-on-year by 8,6 %. There were 74,9 thous. rooms with 197 thous. beds. The number of rooms increased by 4,4 % compared to August 2018, the number of beds increased by 5,6 %.
