Foreign trade detailed data in January 2021

In January 2021, the foreign trade balance was in surplus in the amount of EUR 258,9 million (by EUR 253,4 million higher than in January 2020).

The Slovak Republic recorded the highest surplus with Poland (EUR 272,2 million), France (EUR 232,6 million), Germany (EUR 190,0 million), Hungary (EUR 186,4 million), the Czech Republic (EUR 179,5 million), Austria (EUR 166,1 million), the United Kingdom (EUR 162,5 million), the USA (EUR 148,9 million), Italy (EUR 127,6 million) and Spain (EUR 100,1 million). The largest deficit was recorded with the Republic of Korea (EUR 337,9 million), the Russian Federation (EUR 331,3 million), Vietnam (EUR 312,3 million), China (EUR 222,7 million), Malaysia (EUR 46,3 million), Taiwan (EUR 26 million) and Japan (EUR 15,9 million).

Goods in the amount of EUR 6 496,2 million were exported from the Slovak Republic. Compared with January 2020, total exports decreased by 1,7 %.

In terms of goods, the highest increase was recorded in export of motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons by EUR 64,8 million, telephone sets including telephones for cellular networks by EUR 38,2 million, monitors, projectors, reception apparatus for television by EUR 38,1 million, motor vehicles for the transport of goods by EUR 32,7 million and flat rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, hot rolled by EUR 23,2 million. The highest decrease was recorded in export of petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals other than crude by EUR 41,5 million, footwear with other soles of rubber, plastic or leather by EUR 15,6 million and new pneumatic tyres of rubber by EUR 14,2 million.

As regards the most important trading partners, exports to the Czech Republic increased by 3,2 %, Poland by 8,6 %, the USA by 34,9 %, Spain by 2,7 %, China by 75,9 % and Romania by 8,5 %. Export to Germany dropped by 0,4 %, France by 7,6 %, Hungary by 12,2 %, Austria by 14,2 %, Italy by 5,3 % and the United Kingdom by 41 %.

In terms of the main economic groupings, exports to EU countries decreased by 2,1 % (representing  80 % of total exports of the SR) and to the OECD countries by 3,5 % (representing 87,1 % of total exports of the SR).

Goods in the amount of EUR 6 237,3 million were imported to the Slovak Republic, with a year-on-year decrease of 5,6 %.

In terms of goods, imports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons increased by EUR 51,5 million, diagnostic or laboratory reagents on a backing by EUR 36,9 million, parts and accessories of transmission apparatus for radio or television broadcasting by EUR 26,7 million, electrical motors and generators by EUR 23,8 million and automatic data-processing machines and units thereof by EUR 23,6 million. Export decrease more considerably of petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals other than crude by EUR 95,2 million, spark-ignition reciprocating or rotary internal combustion piston engines by EUR 32,7 million and motor cars and other motor vehicles principally designed for the transport of persons by EUR 22,8 million.

In relation to the most important trading partners, imports from Germany increased by 23,4 % and Vietnam by 26 %. Import dropped from the Czech Republic by 12,9 %, the Russian Federation by 6,3 %, China by 9,3 %, Korean Republic by 12,1 %, Poland by 20,3 %, France by 11,6 %, Hungary by 44,9 %, Italy by 22 %, Austria by 29,7 % and Spain by 3,8 %.

In terms of the main economic groupings, compared to the corresponding period of 2020, imports from EU countries decreased by 3 % (representing 65,3 % of total imports) and from OECD countries it dropped by 11,4 % (representing 61,9 % of total imports of the SR ).


Note: Data are preliminary at current prices in the FOB-type value. Information was processed by the Statistical Office of the SR on the basis of data from the Customs Section of the Financial Directorate of the SR obtained within the customs clearance and INTRASTAT-SK declarations, which are provided by consignee and consignor of goods.
EU data are without the United Kingdom since January 2020.
The data for the OECD have included Colombia since January 2020 (it has been a member of the OECD since 28.4.2020).
