Average nominal monthly wage decreased for the first time during the existence of the independent SR, it dropped by 1,2 %, year-on-year to EUR 1 088
The average nominal monthly wage of an employee in the economy of the SR reached EUR 1 088. Compared with the 2nd quarter of last year, it fell by 1,2 %.
Taking into account the inflation rate, the decrease of the real wage reached 3 %. Compared with the 1st quarter of 2020, the seasonally adjusted average wage dropped by 4,9 %.
The highest level of average monthly wage was reached in the sectors of financial and insurance activities (EUR 2 054), information and communication (EUR 1 918) and electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (by EUR 1 864). In eleven sectors, the wage was lower than the average in the SR economy. The lowest average nominal wage was recorded by employees in accommodation and food service activities (EUR 550), in other activities (by EUR 677) and in construction (by EUR 732).
Compared with the corresponding period last year, the average nominal monthly wage decreased in the majority of sectors, relatively the most rapidly in accommodation and food service activities (by 16,3 %), in arts, entertainment and recreation (by 8,4 %) and in administrative services (by 7,6 %).
In territorial terms, the average nominal monthly wage was higher than the average of the total economy of the SR only in Bratislavský kraj (EUR 1 366). In other regions, it ranged from EUR 823 in Prešovský kraj to EUR 1 017 in Košický kraj.
The average wage was lower in all regions than in the 2nd quarter of 2019, with the relatively highest decrease by 5,1 % in Žilinský kraj.
In the 1st half of 2020, the average nominal monthly wage of an employee in the economy of the SR reached EUR 1 087. It increased by 2,4 %, year-on-year, its growth rate slowed down by 6 p.p., compared with the corresponding period last year. The real wage increased by 0,1 %.
