Foreign trade detailed data in March 2021 and in the first three months of 2021

In March, compared to the same period last year, total exports of goods increased by 41,3 % to EUR 8 451,2 million and total imports increased by 24,7 % to EUR 7 898,9 million. The balance of foreign trade was in surplus in the amount of EUR 552,3 million.

In the period of January-March 2021, the foreign trade balance was in surplus in the amount of EUR 1 267 million.

The Slovak Republic recorded the highest surplus with France (EUR 794,1 million), Germany (EUR 757 million), Poland (EUR 756,6 million), Hungary (EUR 642,3 million), Austria (628,2 million), the United Kingdom (EUR 602,4 million), the United States (EUR 552,4 million), the Czech Republic (EUR 403,8 million), Italy (EUR 396 million) and Spain (EUR 264,9 million). The largest deficit was recorded with the Republic of Korea (EUR 1 150,5 million), Vietnam (EUR 1 048,4 million), the Russian Federation (EUR 882,9 million), China (EUR 693 million), Malaysia (EUR 160,5 million) and Taiwan (EUR 88 million).

Goods were exported from the Slovak Republic in the amount of EUR 22 152,3 million. Compared to the same period in 2020, exports increased by 14,3 %.

In terms of goods, exports of passenger cars and other motor vehicles designed mainly for the transport of persons increased by EUR 1 543 million, parts and accessories of motor vehicles by EUR 283,9 million, monitors and projectors, television reception apparatus by EUR 152,8 million, motor vehicles for the transport of goods by EUR 147,4 million and flat rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, hot rolled by EUR 108,3 million. Exports of petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals, other than crude decreased the most by EUR 99,1 million, other footwear with outer soles and uppers of rubber of plastics by EUR 20,8 million and combustion piston engines by EUR 20,1 million.

As for the most important trading partners, exports to Germany increased by 15,6 %, the Czech Republic by 12,6 %, Poland by 19,3 %, France by 20,3 %, Hungary by 5,8 %, Austria by 2,5 %, Italy by 18,3 %, the United States by 56,7 %, China by 132,5 %, Spain by 17 % and Romania by 13,4 %. Exports to the United Kingdom decreased by 15,5 %.

As for the main economic groupings, exports to EU countries increased by 13,2 % (accounting for 78,8 % of total Slovak exports) and to OECD countries by 12,9 % (accounting for 87,2 % of total Slovak exports).

Goods were imported to the Slovak Republic in the amount of EUR 20 884,8 million, with a year-on-year growth of 7,1 %.

In terms of goods, imports of parts and accessories of motor vehicles increased by EUR 318,7 million, diagnostic or laboratory reagents on a backing by EUR 164,2 million, oil gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons by EUR 150,2 million, wires and cables by EUR 135 million and parts and accessories for transmission apparatus for radiotelephony, radio broadcasting or television by EUR 127,2 million. Imports of petroleum oils and oils from bituminous minerals, crude decreased more significantly by EUR 155,7 million and telephone sets, including telephones for cellular network and other wireless networks by EUR 58,4 million.

In relation to the most important trading partners, imports from Germany increased by 36,2 %, China by 10,7 %, the Russian Federation by 1,8 %, the Republic of Korea by 13,6 %, Vietnam by 8 % and France by 0,4 %. Imports to the Czech Republic decreased by 3,3 %, Poland by 8,7 %, Hungary by 35,1 %, Italy by 1,6 % and Austria by 17,6 %.

As for the main economic groupings, compared to the same period of 2020, imports from EU countries increased by 8 % (accounting for 65,8 % of total imports) and from OECD countries increased by 3,8 % (accounting for 64,6 % of total imports from the Slovak Republic).
