Turnover in selected sectors of economy in August 2019

Development in August 2019 in comparison with July 2019 1) 

Turnover increased, month-on-month, only in selected market services by 0,6 %. It decreased in construction by 2,7 %, transportation and storage by 2,1 %, information and communication activities by 1,4 % and in industry by 0,1 %.

Development in August 2019 compared with August 2018

The decrease of turnover in industry which began in June 2019 continued also in August, the turnover decreased by 8,6 %, year-on-year. The development by the SK NACE sections was affected by a decrease in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 16,5 %; manufacturing by 7,8 %, in mining and quarrying by 4,7 % and by an increase in water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation by 8 %. In terms of particular groupings of industrial sectors, which contributed at most to the total turnover decrease, the most significant drop was recorded in manufacture of transport equipment by 9,5 %, in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 16,5 %, manufacture of basic metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 8,9 %, manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c.by 13,2 % and in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 12,8 %. Turnover increased only in other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 8,6 %, in water supply, sewerage and waste management by 8 %, in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations by 5,2 % and in manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products by 0,5 %.

Similarly in  construction, the turnover decreased for the third consecutive month, in August 2019, it decreased by 7,4 %, year-on-year, which was the biggest decline since February 2017.

Following the long-term growth, turnover in transportation and storage 2) decreased by 0,5 %, year-on-year. The development was affected by a decrease of turnover in land transport and transport via pipelines by 2,2 % and in air transport by 16,5 %. Turnover in warehousing and support activities for transportation remained unchanged month-on-month, an increase was recorded in postal and courier services and in waterborne transport.

Turnover in information and communication 3)  increased, year-on-year, by 2,7 %. The growth was affected by higher turnover mostly in computer programming by 8,7 % and in telecommunication by 3,5 %. A decrease was in motion picture, video and television programme production, information and communication activities and in publishing activities.

In selected market services 4) the total turnover increased by 2 %. The growth was affected by higher turnover mainly in real estates by 24,1 % and in legal and accounting services by 7,1 %. Turnover decreased the most significantly in travel agencies and tour operator activities.

Total turnover in  industry increased by 2 %. The development by the sections of SK NACE Rev. 2 was affected by an increase in water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation by 13,2 %; manufacturing by 3,4 % and by a decrease in water supply, sewerage and remediation by 8,3 % and in mining and quarrying by 5,3 %.  In terms of particular groupings of industrial sectors, turnover increased mostly in manufacture of transport equipment by 11,2 %, other manufacture, repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 9,7 %, water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation by 13,2 %, manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco products by 3,2 % and in manufacture of rubber and plastic products and other non-metallic mineral products by 1,9 %. Turnover decreased mainly in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply by 8,3 %, manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products by 7,5 %, manufacture of basic metal and fabricated metal products except machinery and equipment by 2,4 %, manufacture of textiles, apparel, leather and related products by 8,4 % and in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products by 8,1 %.

Turnover in  construction enterprises increased by 1 %.

Turnover in  transportation and storage rose, year-on-year, by 3,4 % affected mostly by higher turnover in warehousing and support activities for transportation by 7,4 % and in postal and courier activities by 13,5 %. It dropped only in land transport and transport via pipelines.

Total turnover in  information and communication turnover increased by 8,4 %. There was an increase in all activities, mainly in computer programming by 11,7 %, in telecommunication and in information services equally by 6,4 %.

In selected market services, turnover rose by 8,1 %. There was an increase in the majority of activities, turnover increased mostly in administrative, office support and other business support activities by 11,3 %, in real estate activities by 9,8 % and in legal and accounting activities by 8 %. There was a decrease of turnover only in travel agency and tour operator activities and in architectural and engineering activities.
