Employment and average monthly wage in selected sectors of economy in April 2021

Employment increased year-on-year in April 2021 only in information and communication activities and in selected market services. Wage growth was the most significant in accommodation and in the activities of food and beverage services, however, the wage achieved was the lowest in these sectors.

Employment

In April 2021 compared with April 2020, employment increased in information and communication by 3,4 % and in selected market services by 2,4 %. It decreased the most in accommodation by 19,7 % and a decrease above 10 % was also in the activities of food and beverage services (by 12,2 %). It dropped also in construction by 5,1 %, in wholesale by 4,7 %, in retail trade by 4,5 %, in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 4,3 %, in industry by 3 % and in transportation and storage by 1,6 %.

On average, over first four months of 2021, compared to the corresponding period in 2020, employment increased only in information and communication by 1,7 %. It decreased in accommodation by 21,3 %, food and beverage service activities by 13,5 %, construction by 8,2 %, wholesale by 6,4 %, retail trade by 4,7 %, industry by 4,6 %, sale and repair of motor vehicles by 4 %, in transportation and storage by 3,4 % and in selected market services by 0,4 %.

Average monthly wage

In April, there was a double-digit growth of the average nominal monthly wage almost in all sectors, in accommodation and in food and beverage service activities it even exceeded 20 %, though, the wage achieved, was the lowest in these sectors. The highest year-on-year growth of the average nominal monthly wage was in April 2021 in accommodation by 28,9 % (amounted to EUR 700) and in food and beverage service activities by 21,1 % (EUR 557). Above 10 %  it rose in industry by 16,6 % (EUR 1 263), in transportation and storage by 14,7 % (EUR 1 097), in wholesale by 13,7 % (EUR 1 153), in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 12,2 % (EUR 1 101), in retail trade by 11,7 % (EUR 848), in construction by 10,9 % (EUR 801), in selected market services by 10,7 % (EUR 1 106). The growth was the slowest in information and communication activities by 9,8 %, however, the level of the wage achieved was the highest (EUR 2 189).

In April 2021 compared with April 2020, the average real monthly wage increased the most in accommodation by 26,9 % and in food and beverage service activities by 19,2 %. A double-digit growth was also in industry by 14,8 %, in transportation and storage by 12,9 %, in wholesale by 11,9 %, in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 10,4 %. It rose also in retail trade by 9,9 %, in construction by 9,2 %, in selected market services by 9 % and in information and communication activities by 8,1 %.

On average, over the first four months of 2021 compared with the corresponding period in 2020, the wage increased in selected market services by 8,2 % (amounted to EUR 1 107), in construction by 7,5 % (EUR 777), in industry by 7,3 % (EUR 1 211), in wholesale by 6 % (EUR 1 114), in information and communication activities by 5 % (EUR 2 128), in retail trade by 4,6 % (EUR 819), in transportation and storage by 4,4 % (EUR 1 046) and in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 3,5 % (EUR 1 066) and in food and beverage service activities by 1,7 % (EUR 538). It decreased only in accommodation by 5,6 % (EUR 676).

The real monthly wage increased year-on-year in selected market services by 7 %, in construction by 6,3 %, industry by 6,1 %, in wholesale by 4,8 %, in information and communication activities by 3,9 %, in retail trade by 3,5 % and in transportation and storage by 3,3 %, in sale and repair of motor vehicles by 2,4 % and in food and beverage service activities by 0,6 %. It dropped in accommodation by 6,6 %.
